The Mountain
All these resorts are within range, so you are spoilt for choice. It does attract the second most amount of western visitors behind Niseko, so it is well set up to accommodate westerners. Along with Niseko it is often chosen as the first or second trip to Japan before you will look at some of the lesser known or more adventurous options.

The Location
The most common way to travel to Hakuba valley is to fly into Tokyo, catch a direct shuttle bus or combination of bus and shinkansen. We can help you book all transfers

4th February 2023

Hakuba is a large spread-out collection of accommodation, holiday homes and local houses.  The main street starts at the Hakuba Base Camp bus terminal, with a number of restaurants, coffee shops, ski shops and ski hire along the road. It can get quite busy when the weather or snow on the mountains is not good, and you defiantly need to book a restaurant if you’re a group of more than three.

We stayed at Brownie Villas which is a group of small chalets. Ours was a 2 bedroom, it had the basics for cooking, a small lounge area and a loft. Each room had a wall heater, which at night can be a little noisy. The shuttle buses stops are at the end of the street, depending on which mountain you want to go to.  They are quite frequent in the morning, less so in the early afternoons. When the pow pow is on, the buses are packed. My suggestion would be to hire your own transport, that way you can move around the different mountains when you want. The nearby supermarket is large and has everything you need.

Thanks again Hisae for arranging the accommodation.

Cheers,

Darren

Late February 2014.

Hakuba was great, a few more people around however (compared with Madarao).

Testu and the staff at brownie villas were amazing! Testu took us out skiing and was around the clock going above and beyond to make our stay easy! Testu was just fabulous!!

Again I hope to return!

We also did a back country tour with Dave Enright, that to was just amazing! We escaped our first day of rain, which happened too be our last day skiing and had powder to our bellies again!! We all absolutely loved japan, the people, the snow and the hospitality!!

I'd like to thank you again Hisae for all your help and advice in making our journey so accommodating and fantastic!! Can't wait to visit again in the near future!
